"
I have been a fan of HwD for a long time, the manga is so fantastic and this story really filled in those unmentioned years between Sawa-san's leaving the force and moving out on his own with Yukihito to where the main storyline is set several years later. It was so well crafted and detailed and it contains such believable and loveable original characters. The emotions and feelings portrayed in this story are deep and realistic.

Sawa's gentle steps forward into his new identity are appropriate and seem well thought out, just as Yukihito's struggles with being a teenager as well desiring to be the lover of an older man is fascinating. I think that the author had him emerge from his shell at just the right pace and I have to say his dialogue is pleasantly and believably written. I of course have to comment on the smut scenes and the sexual tension in the story as well, because I would be leaving out a large portion of my kudos to the author if I did not. The sex scenes are fantastic, very well written and just detailed enough to bring out the true emotions going on in them without becoming long winded. The words themselves do not infringe upon the flow of the scenes or hinder them in any way in my imagination.

The sexual tension between Yukihito and Sawa is so deliciously tense and while I, on first reading this a few years back, wanted to hurt the author desperately for making them wait a year until Yuki's birthday, I appreciated it later and every time thereafter that I read the story. It is so necessary and the way the author portrays the characters going through the tension of their budding relationship, fraught with social taboos as it is, is beautiful and so eloquent it makes me cry. I feel the tension as strongly as if it were myself in their shoes and I don't think you can do much more than that as an author to bring a reader into the story.

I have read this story through three or four times now in its entirety and I am sure I will read it again, it is that good. The author is truly a master story teller and they aren't pursuing a career in writing, I would strongly suggest it. They have the talent for it, they really do.
"
